When Oldham-based Textile Manufacturer, Mallalieus of Delph, approached UKC Company (formerly known as Language) with a brief to raise awareness of their high-quality woollen cloth with the Chinese market, it was easy to see the potential of this established and uniquely British brand.
With a history spanning over 150 years, Mallalieus has been manufacturing finished cloth from raw material for five generations, while keeping pace with the frequent technological changes in the textile industry.
The evolution from the handloom to computerisation has not been ignored and today Mallalieus has a high production capability supported by up-to-the-minute equipment and expertise in cloth design and development.
Changing market demands have pushed the company into niche markets which have proved crucial for its on-going success. In addition to designer and non-household names in the UK and throughout Europe, the company has also created a customer base in America and the Far East.
For this print-based project, UKC combined strong art direction with specialist knowledge of Chinese consumer trends to tailor the brand’s offer to specific markets. Brochures and promotional material have already been distributed in China with design elements that clearly demonstrate Mallalieus’s focus on the highest quality raw materials.
