UKC unearth plans for Japanese Archaeology Archive

UKC Company (formerly known as Language) is working with The Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures (SISJAC) to create a unique online educational resource, which will document Japanese cultural and archaeological heritage throughout the ages.

The Online Resource for Japanese Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (ORJACH) will increase awareness of Japanese culture and archaeology outside of Japan. The agency was selected following a competitive tender process, and will commence work on the resource in June 2014.

The ORJACH site will be designed with a focus on usability, and will maintain an image-led approach throughout; reflecting the rich nature of the artefacts that will be showcased through the site. In addition to hosting a searchable archive of material and information, central to the site will be interactive modules for teachers looking to cover Japanese archaeology and cultural heritage in the curriculum. The archive will be fully responsive, ensuring a consistent user experience on computers, tablets or smartphone devices.

Ben Hui, managing director, UKC Company said: “The Sainsbury Institute holds an incredibly rich archive of Japanese history, and it’s a privilege to work with them in order to bring this alive. Having conducted a great deal of research to inform our initial proposal, we feel that we have an opportunity to create something quite ground-breaking through this project.”
